COACHING FUNNELS

How to build a VSL funnel for a coaching business

A video sales letter (VSL) funnel gives a prospective client one clear route from “this sounds like me” to the next step. The video matters, but the offer, page, form, calendar and follow-up determine whether the route actually works.

A video sales letter (VSL) funnel gives a prospective client one clear route from “this sounds like me” to the next step. The video matters, but the offer, page, form, calendar and follow-up determine whether the route actually works.

Start with one coaching offer

Choose one specific outcome, audience and next action before writing the script. A business coach selling a group program needs a different page from an executive coach offering a private discovery call. Write down who the program is for, the problem it addresses, what is included, the format and the entry price or qualification rule if you can share it.

Decide whether a viewer should apply, book a call, buy directly or join a waitlist. Do not present all four as equal actions. If there is an application, only ask questions that help you decide whether the conversation is useful.

Write the VSL around a decision

Open with the audience and the problem in language they use. Show the cost of leaving the problem unresolved, then explain the approach and what the offer includes. Use a concrete example or a verified client story where you have permission. Address practical objections such as time commitment, delivery format and who it is not suited for. End by telling the viewer what happens after the click.

A workable outline is: specific promise → problem → why the old approach stalls → your method → credible proof → offer → next step. The order is more useful than a forced video length. Record with clear audio, captions and a transcript; avoid promising a result you cannot substantiate.

Build the page around the video

At the top, repeat the audience and outcome in one headline. Put the video where it is easy to see on a phone, with an honest play thumbnail and controls. Beneath it, summarize the offer, deliverables, ideal client, proof and common questions. Keep the booking or application button visible after the video and after the main objections, with consistent wording.

Test the page on a slow mobile connection. Check that the video does not block the first meaningful text, the captions work, and the form does not reset when a user returns to it. A two-step path can be enough: VSL page and application or booking confirmation.

Connect applications and follow-up

Route each submission into the right CRM pipeline with the offer, source and answers. Send a confirmation that states the date or review timeline, the meeting link if booked, and the preparation required. Alert the person responsible for the reply. If someone begins an application but leaves, any follow-up must respect their consent and the rules that apply to your audience.

For a call funnel, test the calendar time zone, meeting link, reminder timing, reschedule link and cancelled-booking behavior. A booked slot with a broken confirmation is still a broken funnel.

Measure the bottleneck, then change one thing

Track page visits, video starts and meaningful watches, CTA clicks, applications, qualified calls and attended calls. These are separate steps. If viewers leave before playing, revisit the headline and video framing. If they watch but do not apply, revisit the offer and application friction. If they apply but do not attend, inspect confirmation and reminders.

Before launch: submit a real test application on desktop and mobile, verify the CRM record, receive the confirmation, book a time, reschedule it, and check what the team sees.
